A Spiritual Birthday Gift

A Spiritual Birthday Gift

Butterflies have always been magical to me because they are so free and beautiful. In 2012 my Mom told me: “Promise me something, that you will go to Costa Rica next year for me. I will not be here but I will send all the butterflies and tell them to visit my beautiful girl so that you know I am with you.” She kept that promise and on my last day of vacation I was greeted by an amazing, deep yellow butterfly. I knew immediately that it was her and she brought such a variety of friends with her. It is a memory I cherish every day that allowed me to truly grieve for her and let go.

This November visit was extra special and reinforced my Mom’s presence is with me all the time. My birthday is in November and my Mom always made it so special. I miss getting a card from her the week before my birthday and her insisting that we have cake and ice cream to celebrate. Two things that I took for granted when she was here and now I would give anything to have. But today, as I sit eating breakfast in Costa Rica, there are many butterflies fluttering about. I am taken by their grace and beauty as my heart fills with love from my Mom. I look down to see a beautiful orange butterfly struggling to fly and realize that it has a broken wing. I reach down to pick her up so she is out of foot traffic and she eagerly climbs onto my hand. What an amazing feeling to be able to hold one of these magical beings! She spent an hour with me while I ate my breakfast and checked my messages – a birthday gift from my Mom. As I was leaving The Bakery I tried to place her safely in the flowers but she clung to my finger. Finally she moved to the flower and I said goodbye, my heart filled with love and joy from the experience.

What an amazing experience to feel the love of a tiny little being. My day was extra beautiful from that moment on and I am so grateful to now have that memory. I am also grateful to have that feeling of my Mom joining me for a part of my day in a way that I could touch and feel.

When we truly believe in the power of positive, beautiful things happen. Always believe in the greater good of the world and you will experience pure, honest love in places you would never expect.

Thank you Mom for being present in spirit and in a form that I could touch. It means more than anyone could ever know.

Have a Beautiful Day!! ~Pamela

Stepping Out of THE COMFORT ZONE

I follow Jeff Moore on Facebook and today he posted a great picture about getting out of “The Comfort Zone”.  It really made me take a look at myself and realize that lately I have been joining the 2% of people who are living outside of their comfort zone.  It’s a rewarding place to step into.

Taking risks isn’t easy and often we stay in familiar territory out of fear.  Fear of failure, rejection, judgement are all things that make us uncomfortable.  Funny thing is when we take the risk the reward greatly outweighs the fear once we get through it.  The hardest part sometimes is thinking that we are taking that risk alone.  Funny thing happens when you get out there…YOU ARE NOT ALONE there is always someone who will take your hand and walk with you.

Five years ago I stepped out of my comfort zone to pursue a dream.  People didn’t understand why I wanted to become a Massage Therapist when I had a “great” job that paid me extremely well and provided benefits.  I didn’t really have an answer but I knew that I wasn’t happy and needed to make a change.  That risk paid off and allowed me to keep moving further out of that comfort zone.

I am now seeing that taking the risk to fail or be rejected makes me a stronger person and that most of the time that step becomes a success.  I am beginning to live my life on my own terms more and more.  This is an incredible place to be!

I have a long way to go but am determined to keep STEPPING OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE.  I encourage you to take that journey with me and make that 2% become those who are staying comfortable.  See yourself living the life you always dreamed of rather than the one society boxed you into.

You ARE amazing…always remember that!

Have a beautiful “out of the zone” day!  ~Pamela

Progress: A New Approach to Wellness

As a follow up to my blog “A New Approach to Wellness” I want to share my progress with you so far.  I will update every few days for two reasons:

1.  If I write AND publish my progress then I am holding myself accountable.

2.  By sharing my progress I may inspire one person to take the journey too.

Day One was PRIORITIES and it allowed me to identify the things in my life that are most important to me.  This exercise not only allowed me to identify the important people, places and things in my life, but also made me realize how very grateful I am for all of the amazing gifts I have in my life.  This exercise resulted in developing a TOP PRIORITY CLARITY STATEMENT which took time and thought to develop.  Here it is:

“My number one priority is my own health and wellness; I will practice what I teach others and set a good example of healthy living for those around me, especially my niece and nephew; I will limit activities which put my health at risk; I will weigh all decisions against what would be helpful, harmful or indifferent to my overall health and wellness.”

This statement will be printed out and placed on my refridgerator, on my vision board, near the front door, in my wallet, and in my car so that I can memorize it and see it throughout the day.

Day Two was GOAL SETTING and this was a little more difficult.  The idea is to set SMART goals that take you out of your comfort zone and can be measured.  After coming up with 10 goals (and realizing that this is done every 7 days – WOW) I felt like I had really dug deep and accomplished a solid list.

Day Three was setting the PUSH goal.  This was a little more challenging because it made me take a good look at all the goals I had written down and choose the one that would catapult enough change to make the others fall into place.  I managed to decide on one goal which was not easy!

This is as far as I have gotten, but I am very grateful to Chalene Johnson for putting this new perspective on getting fit.  It really is so much more than saying “Today I’m going to start….or in my case tomorrow I will start.”

If anyone has decided to get the book and start the 30 day journey please share you opinion, progress, and anything else.  Sometimes it’s nice to know you are not doing this alone.  If there is enough response then I will create a FB group to share our progress on.

Happy July 4th Weekend!

Happy Monday? It can be…

Monday is one of the best days of the week.  For me Monday is the day for fresh starts.  It’s the day we set fresh goals for the week like going to the gym or eating healthier or maybe just being kind to a stranger.

When I made the choice to leave my corporate job after 15 years it became clear to me that Monday is the best day of the week when you begin doing what you love.  I’m not saying that it’s easy and I understand that not everyone can just walk away from a high paying job with benefits.  What I am saying is that if we approach Monday’s with a positive attitude they can become “Happy Monday” instead of “Dreaded Monday”.

My Monday begins by having gratitude for all the good things I have in my life, especially the little things.  Then I think about one thing that I would like to change or improve in my life.  I like to make that the focus of my gratitude for the week.  As the week unfolds I can see opportunities and enjoy the happy in my week.

My challenge to you is to try next week to have a Happy Monday.  Find that positive within you and see how beautiful your day can be when you let it fill you up!

I hope you all had a great Monday and have a beautiful week!  ~Pamela
